Our mission is to design a robust device that will help neurosurgeons place pedicle screws accurately during spinal fixation.

Spinal Fixation is a surgical intervention that treats a wide range of conditions such as Spondylolisthesis, spine fractures, and abnormal deformations due to Scoliosis.

Successful placement of pedicle screws is imperative for the patient’s well-being since failure to do so can result in damage to the spinal cord and/or adjacent nerve roots, which causes complete paralysis, or potential damage to the thoracic aorta. In fact, the average rate of misplaced screws in the US alone is 20%, where 2-7% of patients develop neurological complications and 4-5% develop vascular complications after the operation.
